Summer School Bummer
There's nothing worse than having school over the summer, right? I made this Polyvore set while I was taking a sociology course for my minor this past summer. This is what I like to imagine I wore to class; unfortunately the reality was a lot less angsty and a lot more boring.

Movie Muse monday:Suzy Bishop
I've been really busy and haven't gotten the chance to do any outfit posts (not even a Halloween one!), but I don't want that to kep me from updating this blog. I've been on Polyvore lately and I noticed that a lot of my sets are inspired by some of my favorite ladies on the big screen. That's how I came up with the idea for "Movie Muse Monday"; this gives me the opportunity to update my blog more frequently and practice my writing outside of the usual "this is what I wore..."
That brings us to this week's movie muse: Suzy Bishop from Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom. If you haven't seen it already you definitely should get around to doing that. It's a story about young love and it's just the most charming film that I've seen in a long time. I won't give away too much (because you're going to go see it right??), but 12 year old Suzy meets Sam one summer and the two continue to write to each other over the course of a year until they agree to run away with each other the following summer. Suzy is a bit of a hot-head but like most young adults, she is simply misunderstood. She enjoys books about magic powers with a female hero ("but not always") and her favorite album is Françoise Hardy's The Yeh-Yeh Girl From Paris.
Suzy's interests play an integral role in her iconic style. She carries around a yellow suitcase to hold her favorite books and a light blue record player to listen to Françoise Hardy. She also wears a pair of binoculars around her neck and carries her cat in a woven basket. Alas these are only her practical accessories; Suzy's personal style goes way beyond practicality. Her style is a reflection of the era the movie is set in: 60s shift dresses in primary colors signature to Wes Anderson's aesthetic, white knee high socks and saddle shoes. Perhaps my favorite aspect of Suzy's personal style is her makeup, which reminds me of a 12-year-old's interpretation of Anna Karina's makeup in Une Femme est Une Femme (and I mean that in the best way possible). I've been trying to replicate Anna Karina's signature blue eyeshdow+black eyeliner since I've seen the movie and it always comes out a bit messy like Suzy's. And I love that because it seems more true to Suzy's character for it to be on the messy side.
